Most ladies’ occasion wear stockists will generally have a hat or fascinator to match their individual outfits. But while they may have different sizes in dresses – you can guarantee that they will show the same hat to a customer who is a size 6 as to one who is a size 18.
When it comes to hats and fascinators for mothers of the bride or groom – one size definitely does not fit all.
The same applies with colour schemes. While a silver haired lady wearing a silver or grey dress would not look out of place, put a silver hat or fascinator on her head too and she will just look insipid.
Simply Devine treats every customer differently – we are all individuals and the wedding of their offspring or close relative may well be the one occasion they have to shine.
Take our lady with beautiful silver hair. If she is petite, she will be lost with a large statement hat or hatinator, so a smaller hatinator or pillbox would be perfect for her. And if she is wearing a silver dress, then she would complement her outfit to make it “pop” by mixing and matching the colours of her bag, shoes and hat with colours such as navy blue or hot pink.
Larger and taller ladies would not suit a tiny headpiece – and should go for a larger piece to balance the outfit and her stature. The taller the lady – the larger the hat she can get away with.
Hair colour has a lot to do with how fabulous the mother of the bride or groom will look too. Blonde hair looks amazing with black or bright colours, while brunettes look gorgeous with lighter or brighter colours too.
When it comes to accessorising, there is no rule, so long as they complement your outfit. It used to be the de rigeur to match the handbag and shoes, but now it is perfectly acceptable to have matching shoes and dress, while your hat and handbag match each other. Or even your shoes and hat matching while your dress and handbag matches. Add in a pashmina to drape over one shoulder or wear as a bolero if you want to tie an outfit together. You can play with the permutations to get the look you want – and depending on the seasons, what is available (try getting pale pink shoes in winter!!!)
And don’t forget jewellery. Many of our customers opt for timeless pearls – and these often now come in different shades. Silver and gold, however and anything that sparkles is always appropriate for special occasions. The old saying that “diamonds are a girl’s best friend” is definitely true for weddings!
