The Royal Ladies all had something in common as they attended the memorial service for the late Prince Phillip.
Her Majesty the Queen, the Duchess of Cornwall, Princess Anne, Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands and Queen Letizia of Spain all wore outfits and hats in a particular shade of dark green known as “Edinburgh Green” as a tribute to the late Prince. The colour is associated with him from his association with the Rifles Regiment, of which he was Colonel in Chief but also to the fact that it was “his” colour and worn by his staff as their livery uniform, and his colour of choice for his private vehicles. It was also the colour of the Land Rover which carried him to his funeral last year.
In another touching tribute, the Duchess of Cornwall wore the bugle brooch of the regiment, of which she took over as Colonel in Chief in 2020.
Even Home Secretary Liz Truss was wearing the colour, though without a hat or fascinator.
Green is certainly one of the most popular colours this season, from dark forest green to pale sage, and everything in between. (My daughter is due to be a bridesmaid and her friend – the bride – has also chosen green as her colour theme for her special day).
Here at the Simply Devine Hat Shop, we did predict green would be one of the hot palettes of the season, and have a beautiful collection of ladies’ hats, hatinators and fascinators in everything from dark forest, through vibrant emerald and teals, to paler sage hues.
Of course, our window display was also decked in green recently for St Patricks Day. So wear the colour this season – and make your friends green with envy!
